1968 Alfa Romeo Spider 1300 ‘Duetto’ Tipo 105/15 (Unfinished project)
Price: £19,000
Description
Highlights
- Structurally sound, commendably original and complete - an excellent basis for restoration
- Highly desirable Series I ‘Duetto’
- The engine is offered in running condition
- Accompanied by several new parts
The Appeal
Winter is well on its way, so it’s time to find a project. If you’re looking for an exotic classic convertible that’s eminently worth saving, this Alfa Romeo ‘Duetto’ Spider is the car to buy. Dry-stored off the road for thirty years, it’s now in need of restoration but remains a commendably well-preserved original example.
We’re informed that the twin-cam runs, but will of course need some restoration along with the remainder of the car. The vendor has amassed some new parts which accompany the car and an assessment has been made of the car’s structure, finding it to be a fundamentally sound base for restoration.
The History and Paperwork
- Accompanied by a heritage certificate
- Constructed 30th November 1968
- Sold new in 1969 in Genoa
- The car has remained in a garage in Sicily for over 30 years, as can be seen from the last registration tax still displayed on the windscreen
The Condition
- Accompanied by several new parts including the headlamp covers, fixing pins, the front headlight crowns, the front shield, the Alfa Romeo Milano badges and the chrome exterior mirror
- Classically finished in red - the paint will require refinishing following restoration
- The bodywork looks straight and solid overall with good door fit down both sides
- There is some localised panel damage visible in the photographs, but nothing that appears especially notable
- Later Alfa Romeo alloy wheels fitted
- Later Hellebore wood-rimmed steering wheel requiring restoration
- The fabric roof has some damage so would benefit from replacement
- Original interior appears complete, including the rubber mats
- The underside presents well overall, with minimal corrosion apparent
- The vendor informs us that the corrosion is mostly superficial, requiring localised repair only
The Mechanics
- 1.3-litre four-cylinder Nord twin-cam
- Five-speed manual gearbox
- We’re informed that the engine runs but will of course require restoration
- All appears mostly complete under the bonnet
